Finally, work has been completed after six months of renovation. Traffic patterns have returned to normal and Southport and Oak Island Mainland residents will save 10 miles of driving to access the eastern part of Oak Island.
The New Hampton Inn & Suites
The new location was completed in March. It is on Long Beach Road. With eighty-eight rooms, it is larger than at its' previous location on Southport/Supply Road. That eighty room building is still owned by Hilton Hotels and Resorts and will be re-branded.
The Rusty Hook
Originally the Dead End Salon, the restaurant has reopened as the Rusty Hook, with upgraded decor and menu items. Adjacent to the South Harbour Village Marina, the Rusty Hook will no doubt be serving transient boaters heading north from winter destinations.
Gardening in the Lower Cape Fear Region
Some would have you believe that it is not possible to have a garden here. A friend in SeaSpray Cove has this impressive garden . This picture was taken May 20th. Harvests of Beets, Carrots, Radishes, Lettuce and Cabbage have already occurred and his tomatoes measure a couple of inches across. The Zucchini, Eggplant, Peppers and Beans are not too far behind. My own garden yielded garbage bags full of Curly Kale and Collards this past winter.
