Harvesting Sustainability through Scalable and Verifiable On Farm Emission Reductions |
Join our partners at 3Degrees on their recent exploration into the heart of sustainable agriculture! In this exclusive behind-the-scenes look, John Bourne, their Director of Agriculture, delves into innovative methane reduction practices on two Washington State dairy farms, including one equipped with the LWR First Wave system.
Discover how these farms are not just transforming the agricultural landscape but also making a direct impact on the carbon footprints of food and beverage manufacturers.
Manure treatment has emerged as a verifiable solution to tackle emissions at the farm level. If you're ready to cultivate a greener future, connect with us after you watch the video below: |

Last month I referenced an article by Nutrien’s eKonomics that talked about understanding the carbon cycle and how organic matter and nutrients are recycled. This month I wanted to expand on this after multiple conversations in the last month where people are asking how we measure the benefits of carbon in manure. To be fully transparent, this is no easy feat. Carbon makes up a large percentage of organic matter and the accumulation of organic matter is a slow process that happens over time.
Manure is high in organic matter and by adding manure to your soils, you help increase the organic matter in your soil slowly over time. This ultimately helps increase nutrient availability and carbon sequestration.
For net sequestration to occur, you need to be adding more carbon to the soil than is being released back into the atmosphere. While it's a great source of organic matter, manure can be expensive to haul and apply. This is why we tend to see a build up in fields close to the manure supply while further away land struggles to build soil organic matter.
By processing manure, you can extract the organic matter out of the liquid fraction to create a much lower volume of solid product that contains nearly all of the organic matter of the liquid manure. By hauling less product, with close to the same amount of organic matter you can start to manage your carbon on farm and maximize the return on the carbon in your manure. |
